ASHLEY SWORD-BUSTER

Originally art was an escape for me. A way to step out of the physically taxing, highly competitive world that engulfed my whole life while attempting to become an Olympian. Painting, drawing, sculpture, and ceramics have each at separate times become a way to re-write the world as I chose, to take control of a reality while my own was spiraling out of my grasp due to injuries and the resulting failure to meet my highest goals.
My work explores not a particular subject or medium, but the search for control and reason in a world that is full of chaos. By taking hold of themes and ideas that in some way relate to my life and re-purposing and redesigning them to fit my needs I am able to re-illustrate concepts giving viewers my lens through which to focus.
